Grand Rapids Public Schools Partners With Amway For A "Center Of Innovation"
The partnership is part of the district's Centers of Innovation Program. The program brings a targeted curriculum to different schools. That gives students more in-depth, career-oriented classes in things like design, engineering and health sciences.
Amway will be involved in a new center for business. John Helmholdt is the district's spokesman. He says the deal is not a corporate sponsorship.
"This is a situation where Amway is one of many business partners and higher education institutions aligning around GRPS high school reforms to help us prepare students for college and a career," he says.
He says other programs in the district have partnered with local hospitals and universities.
