Genesee County Chamber Concerned about Aerotropolis Fairness ANN ARBOR, MI (Michigan Radio) - Michigan lawmakers are still discussing a project designed to attract businesses to areas near Michigan's major airports. But some are concerned the plan would be unfair to other regions.

The Aerotropolis project let communities around major airports band together to attract development in tax-free zones.

So far the focus has been on Wayne and Washtenaw Counties.

Tim Herman is CEO of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce.

He says the project is a good idea but feels it discriminates against other communities:

"It puts Genesee County and other areas at really a competitive disadvantage, and that's what still needs to be addressed in the legislation," Herman says.

The Michigan Department of Treasury says the tax abatements should be granted only to projects that would otherwise not be built.
