(Michigan Radio) -

No progress has been made in contract talks between the city of Detroit and its largest employee unions.

Mayor Dave Bing sat down with union leaders for three hours today in hopes of ending a contract stalemate. The city of Detroit is facing a $300 million budget shortfall.

John Riehl is the president of AFSCME local 207. He says the mayor continues to push for a 10 percent wage cut and other concessions from the city's 13 thousand unionized employees.

"The mayor is continuing his lay off threat, saying he doesn't have the money to pay his bills," says Riehl.

The union may present its own contract proposal next week.
