(Michigan Radio) - Visitors to the upcoming ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids will be able to ride the city's buses for free during much of the event. That is, if they buy an official ArtPrize guide.

ArtPrize guides go on sale next Wednesday, when the art competition officially begins.

The guide will cost $15, but when you buy one, you'll also get a wristband, and with that you can get on any ArtPrize shuttle, and any city bus during certain hours, for free. If you're bringing the kids, anyone over 42 inches tall will need a wristband of their own.

Organizers hopped on a bus to make the announcement.

Bill Holsinger-Robinson is ArtPrize's director of operations. He says the bus will help more people get downtown to see the art.

"But we think it's just going to really open up a lot of opportunities for people who were a little nervous about transportation, or just didn't have access to transportation, to see the art that we're bringing in," he says.

ArtPrize runs from September 23rd through October 10th.
