GM hopes its new Chevrolet Volt can leapfrog the Toyota Prius on gas-saving technology. General Motors
(Michigan Radio) - General Motors announced today what its C-E-O is calling a 'game changer'.

General Motors says its Chevrolet Volt rechargeable electric car should get 230 miles per gallon of gasoline in city driving.

The automaker's claims have not been independently confirmed.

"Having a car that gets triple digit fuel economy is, we believe, can and will be a game changer for us," says GM CEO Fritz Henderson.

The Chevy Volt is expected to reach dealer showrooms in November of 2010.

GM is banking a lot on the appeal of the Chevy Volt,as the one-time number one automaker in the world attempts to emerge from bankruptcy.
