Standish Mayor Wants Gitmo Detainees
The Standish Maximum Correctional Facility is one prison being considered for a combined courtroom and prison complex. A facility in Kansas is also being considered.
Kevin King is the Mayor of Standish. He says the main concern is keeping jobs in the city.
"They're talking about 200 inmates versus what we've had in the past, around 600," says King, "There could be a negative in that regard. I'm hoping that we can continue to employ the same amount of people, and we can employ the same people."
The city is also under consideration for California prisoners to be moved into the facility. The prison is set to close this fall if no inmates are brought in. © Copyright 2010, Michigan Radio
