Who is Virg Bernero?
ANN ARBOR, MI
(Michigan Radio) -
WHO IS VIRG BERNERO?
Current Job:
Mayor of Lansing, Michigan
Previous Political Experience:
former state senator
former state representative
former Ingham County commissioner
Personal:
Married, with 2 adult children
Why do you want to be Mayor?
"There's more work to be done. It's an incredible challenge. The job is thrilling. Exhilarating. Demanding. Toughest job I've ever had. The best job I've ever had."
What's the city's biggest challenge?
"Probably the biggest thing is just the nagging...toughness of this economy. The darned sluggishness. The obstacles...inherent in Michigan's economy."
Working with others?
"I try to be nice. I try to be good. Like my mother said, 'Kill'em with kindness.' I try to remember the whole adage, and not forget parts of it. But you know, I'm Italian. I'm passionate. I can have a short-fuse. I'm always working on that. The bottom-line is I'm impatient for progress. I'm tired of continuing to do the same thing and getting the same results. We can't do that anymore."
