Up, Up...No Way in Lansing
A startup carrier in Lansing gave thousands of customers refunds after delaying flights.
Jet America planned to start service this month to Newark, New Jersey and Florida. Now the company says it won't start flying from Lansing until August.
Bryan Glazer is with Jet America. He says the Federal Aviation Administration originally told Jet America it didn't need slots in Newark. Slots are used to regulate takeoffs and landings at airports. Glazer says now the F-A-A wants the company to pay for slots, which have already been auctioned off to larger airlines.
"We need to iron out these details. What happened with the time slots was totally not forecasted, not predicted," says Glazer, "It became a matter of we can't get the slots and the only way we can buy the slots is to buy those slots that are currently in possession of other air carriers."
Glazer says the larger airlines have an advantage because they didn't need to purchase the slots. He says Jet America needs to raise half a million dollars to purchase slots. © Copyright 2009, Michigan Radio
