GM, Chrysler & Toyota Post Big Drops in June Sales
(2009-07-01)
(Michigan Radio) -

Auto makers suffered through another month of slow car and truck sales in June.

With one notable exception.

General Motors and Toyota saw their June sales numbers fall by more than 30% compared to a year ago. Chrysler sales fell by 42%.

Mike DiGiovanni is the head of sales analysis for General Motors. He expects the auto industry will continue to struggle.

"We still believe there are some real strong headwinds out there obviously," DiGiovanni.

He partially blames buyers sitting on the sidelines waiting for a federal 'Cash for Clunkers' program for sagging sales.

Ford also posted lower car and truck sales numbers in June, but their numbers were only down by about 11%. A Ford spokesman says sales in the middle of the country were fairly strong for the Dearborn automaker.
