Remaking the Health Care System
(2009-06-29)
(Michigan Radio) -

Medical professionals and patients sat down for a round table discussion on changing the nation's health care system today in Inkster.

The discussion was tied to the debate going on in Washington over the president's call for a major revamping of the health care system. The goal is to expand coverage to the uninsured.

Amanda Cline of Dearborn Heights recently lost her job with an automotive supplier. Cline says she and her husband both have pre-existing conditions which make it almost impossible to find affordable coverage.

"We need an option by November basically for us that's affordable, that's good quality, and that accepts everybody," says Cline.

Congressman John Dingell says the current health care proposal is about 10 percent of the way through Congress. He hopes the final version of the bill will contain a provision allowing people to obtain health care coverage through an optional federal plan.
