Facing the Mortgage Crisis: Why People Don't Get Help
The state has had a foreclosure problem for several years. The crisis was intensified at first by sub-prime mortgage practices, and, now by extensive job loss, primarily in the auto industry. Since we've had such a history with this problem, it might surprise you to learn that some people who CAN get help to avoid a foreclosure. Don't.
Jamele Hage is the director of the Wayne County Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program. That group and dozens of others in Southeast Michigan have formed a coalition to get the word out that help is available.
