Pivotal Court Hearing For GM
General Motors returns to federal court this week.
It could be a pivotal step toward exiting bankruptcy.
The judge at the June 30th hearing is being asked to consider allowing GM to unload some of its assets to the U.S. Treasury Department-sponsored Vehicle Acquisition Holding company.
The sale is a key step for General Motors' eventual exit from bankruptcy protection. Aaron Bragman is a research analyst with IHS Global Insight
"There are some objections from some bond holders that the whole deal to do this has been done in back rooms (under) pressure from the US government," says Bragman, "and(they)really haven't had a fair shake."
If the judge does give GM the green light, a new, leaner, majority government-owned General Motors could emerge from bankruptcy as early as week's end. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
