Plenty of Good Seats Are Still Available!
Tens of thousands of NASCAR fans are jamming Michigan International Speedway this weekend. But, there are many empty seats at the south Michigan auto race track.
Speedway officials expect attendance this weekend will be down between 20 and 25%. Michigan International Speedway is not alone. Attendance at NASCAR races around the county is down more than 10%.
Roger Curtis is the track's president. He says Michigan's recession has cut deep into corporate ticketing buying.
"They'll still coming," says Curtis, "We still have a really good wide variety of national and regional companies they're just coming in smaller groups. A DuPont has gone from 700 to 50, for example, so now you have to back fill those with onezies and twozies."
Curtis is hopeful attendance will improve as Michigan's economy recovers along with the rest of the nation. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
