ANN ARBOR
(Michigan Radio) -
Michigan retailers are in the final hours of a dismal holiday shopping season.
James Hallan is the president of the Michigan Retailers Association.
He says an early prediction that sales would drop about 1 percent from last Christmas was accurate.
Hallan says most retailers have cut deep into their profit margins by offering big discounts to lure Christmas shoppers.
"There are great bargains out there for consumers right now. You know the discounts started early this year. Its more severe than we have seen in a number of years," says Hallan.
Hallan says there are a few bright spots in the down economy, but very few. © Copyright 2012, Michigan Radio
