West Michigan Says Yes To Transit Millage
(2007-05-09)
(Michigan Radio) - Voters in the greater Grand Rapids area approved a millage to help its regional bus system expand yesterday.

Voters in The Rapid's six-city network including Grand Rapids passed a five-year millage renewal and increase by nearly 60 percent.

The ballot question won despite defeats in Wyoming and Grandville.

Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell says he's pleased with the results.

"What this says is that people love their transit. It's providing a good service, it's getting people to and from work. It's doing what it's supposed to do and people are willing to pay for it."

Supporters say the funds will go towards expanding the system's frequency and service area.
