This September, the Michigan Humanities Council will launch its fourth Great Michigan Read – a statewide reading and discussion program that explores our past, present and future through discussion of a single literary title.
This year, the biennial program encourages discussion about family secrets, mental health, genealogy and immigration through its selection of "Annie’s Ghosts," written by Detroit native and Washington Post Associate Editor Steve Luxenberg. "Annie’s Ghosts" is part memoir, part detective story and part history that recounts Luxenberg’s experience of discovering an unknown aunt and searching for answers as to why his mother kept her a secret.
