DuPont assessing damage at Gulf Coast facilities
(2005-09-01)
(wesm) - DuPont officials say two of the company's five
Gulf Coast manufacturing facilities suffered significant damage
from Hurricane Katrina.
The Wilmington-based chemical giant says its still trying to
assess "significant flood damage" at two plants in Mississippi.
Three other sites in Alabama and Louisiana suffered less severe
wind and water damage.
While there were no reports of injuries or environmental
incidents at any of the facilities, DuPont today invoked a legal
provision that releases it from contractual commitments to
customers of the Mississippi facilities. Such provisions are meant
to protect a party from events it can't reasonably anticipate or
control.
DuPont says it's too early to say when the facilities might
resume operations.
