Growing Native With Petey Mesquitey- Yokel Acts Local And Finally Sleeps At Night 4-19-08
I really believe that doing good things around your own habitat can make a difference.

by Petey Mesquitey

This is an attempt at an Earth Day show. There is so much to worry about in the world and I really believe that doing good things around your own habitat can make a difference. I'm always reminding myself of the things I could be doing; harvesting water, plant more pollinator plants, drive less......well, you know it all. The poem, by the way, is a fun use of newspaper style headlines to poke fun at myself.

Phaseolus filiformis is a neat native bean. I gathered a few seed on a trip to the Cabeza Prieta with the botanist Richard Felger. How
wonderful. Grow native!

Petey Mesquitey is KXCI's resident storyteller. Since 1992 Petey has delighted KXCI listeners with slide shows and poems, stories and songs about flora, fauna, family and the glory of living in southern Arizona.
