Civil Rights pioneer Dr. Bernard LaFayette returned to Tucson to conduct a 4 day training in nonviolence. Civil Rights pioneer Dr. Bernard LaFayette returned to Tucson to conduct a 4 day training in nonviolence. Dr. Bernard LaFayette was the National Program Administrator for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and one of the founders of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and director of the Poor People's Campaign.

Dr. LaFayette was with Dr. King in the morning of that fateful day when King was assassinated. Dr. King noted that the next movement must be to institutionalize and internationalize nonviolence. Dr. LaFayette has dedicated his life to carrying out those instructions.

Here in Tucson, the Nonviolence Legacy Project has begun to train youth and adults in the philosophy and methodology of nonviolence. Dr. Bernard LaFayette trained 30 new trainers while he was in town in mid-november.

His first lecture for the training was entitled "Nonviolent Direct Action: Techniques and Strategies of Successful Outcomes." Today's 30 Minutes features Part 1 of Dr. LaFayette's talk.
