Play Now...Write (it down) Later Andrew Litton
Gershwin Worked backwards on his Rhapsody in Blue At the premiere of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, everything was ready to go, except for one thing: the solo piano part.

Gershwin knew what he wanted to play but basically made it up on the spot - at the premiere. That big touch of spontaneity is an idea pianist and conductor Andrew Litton wants to keep alive when he plays it.

After the premiere, Gershwin did write the notes down on paper for the complete score -- and as good as they are, we can be pretty certain they vary from what he played at the premiere. Andrew Litton and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra recorded the Rhapsody on Delos (3216). More information on Andrew Litton is available at his website.
