Growing Native with Petey Mesquitey: Kangaroo Rat revisited Petey breaks into song about a favorite animal......what's new? by Petey Mesquitey near the banks of the ol' Guajolote Southeastern Arizona is home to a very large kangaroo rat called the banner tailed kangaroo rat or Dipodomys spectabilis. They are so wonderful!
I first wrote and aired this song many years ago.
The melody is the wonderful sea chanty, Blood Red Roses, that I learned off a Burl Ives record when I was a little boy.
I thought it would be fun to revisit, rewrite a little, and rerecord some old shows. And that's what this show is: Kangaroo Rat revisited.
