Will affordable housing remain an option in downtown Tucson? 30 Minutes features a November 18, 2009 press conference held by activists to call attention to the controversial potential sale of the Coronado Hotel.

The Coronado Hotel was refurbished in part with federal funding and provides 42 low income units to its residents. It is located on the corner of 4th Avenue and 9th Street, just north of the newly completed underpass.

The Downtown Development Corporation, which was created by the city has put the Coronado for sale. Activists concerned about affordable housing have learned that the Coronado can't be sold without city council approval. The Tucson City Council will discuss this matter at their Tuesday, November 24 meeting.

Speakers include Brian Flagg of Casa Maria, Peggy Hutchison of Primavera, Pima County Supervisor Richard Elias, Vice Mayor Regina Romero, former city councilman Jerry Anderson and attorney Bill Risner.
