30 Minutes- Panda Express 11 Update
Immigration attorney Mo Goldman discussed barriers that people face when they attempt to immigrate to the United States. Goldman highlighted the case of Araceli Torres-Ruiz. She was brought to this country when she was 7 years old and graduated from Tucson High. Her immediate family has legal status. She has been in the US for 20 years and has only one aged aunt in Mexico, yet she faces deportation. Her case is currently on appeal.

On March 18, 2008, eleven workers from Panda Express, a local Tucson restaurant were arrested and charged with aggravated identity theft.

The workers were denied bond by the recently passed prop 100. Most spent at least five months in jail separated from their children and families.

Eight of the eleven workers have returned to their countries of origin. Three remain in Tucson awaiting immigration hearings.

More information is available at Derechos Humanos. Goldman is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
