Growwing Native with Petey Mesquitey: Corvus in a Quercus
A raven family lives near the Mesquitey homestead and Petey thinks that's cool. And Petey thinks Prickle Poppy is cool too?! Weirdo. Argemone platyceras or Prickle Poppy is a native weed of roadsides and hammered land. It belongs here though, and simply found its niche. There is no getting around the beauty of the huge white petaled flowers with bright orange centers. It does resemble a fried egg (sunny side up) on top of a gray green spiny stem.
It's in the poppy family and warrants looking up in your favorite herbal to find cool medicinal uses.
I love ravens. If you want to learn more about ravens, my good friend Lynn Hassler wrote a wonderful little book called The Raven, soaring through history, legend and lore.
