Spring in the uplands is approaching far too slowly for poor Petey. Somebody please show the guy some emerging cotyledons.

The Buttercup family or Ranunculaceae - say it rapidly three times - includes the genus Aquilegia. Aquilegia chrysantha or golden columbine in one of our most beautiful wild flowers. The large yellow flowers with their very long spurs will certainly blow your mind.
Look for it blooming from spring to fall in moist canyons from as low as 3,000' and all the way up to 11,000'! A sure fix for any native plant junkie.
