Growing Native with Petey Mesquitey: Monarda menthaefolia
Petey wasn't getting into the hills, but the hills came to him.
near the banks of the ol' guajolote
Monarda menthaefolia growing at 4,800 feet in a dry stream bed running through the desert grassland is a nice find. It's also beautiful in habitat, usually up in the pines, but because bees and butterflies are drawn to it, I think it would be a good plant for a pollinator garden around a homestead in the uplands of southeastern Arizona.
