30 Minutes- National Mentor Day
Pima County has thousands of youth in need of mentors, and a multitude of mentoring programs. January is National Mentoring Month, and January 26th was National Mentoring Day. The Southern Arizonan Mentor Coaliton held their first annual luncheon at the Donna R. Liggins Recreation Center, formerly known as the Northwest Neighborhood Center where many local mentoring groups, and agencies were on hand as well as mentors and mentees. Speakers include: the founder of faith-based Mentor Kids Tucson, Don Mc Neil; Dave Green of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson; and The Honorable Judge Ronald A. Wilson for South Tucson who is the first African American chief magistrate in Pima County and grew up in the Massachusetts foster care system. Judge Wilson is the founder of the Alcumus Institute to train mentors.

Additional groups represented at the Luncheon were Kids Animals Life and Dreams, Stars Mentoring, Goodwill Youth Mentoring, Pathlight Counseling, Desert Men's Council, Oasis Family Life Center, United Way of Tucson's C-Core, One on One Mentoring, and Pima County Interfaith Council. More mentoring opportunitites can be found at Volunteer Southern Arizona.
