30 Minutes- Global Youth Service Day and The Ultimate Food Fight
Representatives from the Global Youth Service Day and The Ultimate Food Fight described these events organized by youth to serve the community. City High School Student Carrie Soo Hoo and Outreach Director Elliott Lax spoke about the 2nd Annual Pennington Street Block Party which took place on Saturday, April 24. The event was a celebration of youth and their involvement in our community. It was the culmination of Global Youth Service Day and included multi-age performances, youth service awards, yummy food vendors, community booths, and fun carnival activities. Performances on the two event stages included mariachi, hip hop, acro-yoga, African drumming, comedy, bellydancing, gospel, folk music, and more. The 9th graders and their City Works teachers took the lead on organizing this event. Event sponsors include City High School, Every Voice in Action Foundation, the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona, and PRONeighborhoods.

MASRC-UA Assistant professor Roberto Dr. Cintli Rodriguez stopped by to talk about "THE ULTIMATE FOOD FIGHT Healthy Eating Food Fair" organized by students from These event is being coordinated by the UA Cultural Nutrition Class (496a) of the department of Mexican American & Raza Studies. The Ultimate Food Fight took place on April 24 at the El Rio Neighborhood Center and featured a Healthy Eating Food Fair for the prevention of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. It included a Foods of the Americas Exhibit, Cooking Show, Food Booths and a Student/Community cookbook. In conjunction, Calpulli Teoxicalli sponsored a run to bring awareness to the crisis of obesity, diabetes and heart disease in our communities from A Mountatin to El Rio Neighborhood Center.
