There are male and female plants and they have cones for reproduction. How cool is that? I was looking at Ephedra plants on a moist morning in the grassland and couldn't remember the last time I spoke about it. There are 5 or maybe 8 species of Ephedra in the southwest depending on if you are a taxonomic lumper or splitter. Ephedra trifurca grows around you and me here in the southeastern corner of the state.
There are male and female plants and they have cones for reproduction. How cool is that? It's very cool. I do recommend reading about Ephedra in your favorite medicinal plant book. Michael Moore is always a delightful read and his section on Ephedra is good.
