The dove silhouette in flight reminds me of a small falcon.by Petey Mesquitey Mourning doves are somewhat bland in coloration, but make up for it with their beautiful fast flight. The dove silhouette in flight reminds me of a small falcon. So what are they doing on the ground all the time? Duh!!! Eating seeds. And a little hunkering in the grassland showed me all the different seed they depend on.
Desmanthus cooleyi won't be found in a nursery, but there are plenty of other native legumes with small seed that you can plant to feed your own flock of Zenaida macroura. Senna covesii would be a good start. Hey, you're a bird gardener!
