The town of Louisiana is flooded with water from the Mississippi River
The relief covers the period of June 1st through August 13th, and includes more than $3.7 million for home repairs and temporary housing.
Susie Stonner is spokesperson for the State Emergency Management Agency.
"Almost 2,000 people have called FEMA and applied for assistance, and they've done almost 1,600 damage inspections of either homes or businesses," Stonner said.
The relief also includes over $3.9 million in low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
"We had a lot of massive rains, the rivers had backed up, the reservoirs couldn't release water, which would cause downstream flooding...and then we had that second group of rain that had dumped 12 inches in many of the northern-tiered counties," Stonner said.
New damage assessments are underway from flooding caused by the remnants of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
