(2008-06-30)

(St. Louis Public Radio) - Barring another downpour to the north, the worst of the flooding may be over for most of Missouri.

But a few places have yet to crest. The National Weather Service said the Mississippi River will hit its high water mark at St. Louis today, at about 9 feet above flood stage.

The flood has caused closure of the President Casino and several other businesses along the riverfront.

The Mississippi is expected to crest at Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri on Wednesday.

The water is slowly starting to recede in hard-hit Lincoln County towns such as Winfield and Foley. © Copyright 2009, St. Louis Public Radio
