McCaskill wants 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' repealed

ST. LOUIS, MO (St. Louis Public Radio) - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill says the 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy gives the military a bad reputation. McCaskill sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee which plans to vote on the policy tomorrow/Thursday.

McCaskill says letting men and women in the service hide their sexuality makes the military seem dishonest.The Missouri Democrat agrees with US Navy Admiral Mike Mullen that the military needs to be open with the public.

"It is very difficult for him, as chairman of the Joint Chiefs, to reconcile the integrity our military represents and the need for someone to try to be duplicitous and not honest about who they are" said McCaskill.

McCaskill says other countries have not had problems with openly gay men and women serving among their troops. © Copyright 2012, St. Louis Public Radio
