Records from the St. Louis Circuit Court dating back 200 years are now available online.
The collection consisting mainly of accounts of trade disputes is part of a larger archival project by the state of Missouri, the circuit court and Washington University.
Elizabeth Gentry Sayad co-chairs the National Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Three Flags Ceremony.
"They reveal a tremendous amount about early St. Louis life, and they will release today documents specifically relating to the fur trade," Sayad said.
The records are being released to coincide with the anniversary of the transfer of the Louisiana Territory, which formally took place in St. Louis on March 9, 1804.
