Serbian Leader's War Crimes Trial On Hold
THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS
(Associated Press) -
U.N. judges have abruptly adjourned Radovan Karadzic's war crimes trial after the former Bosnian Serb leader boycotted the opening day to protest his lack of time to prepare his defense.
Judge O-Gon Kwon suspended the trial about 15 minutes after it began. He said the case would resume Tuesday with the prosecution's opening statement.
Neither Karadzic, who is representing himself, nor any other defense lawyer appeared in the courtroom.
The prosecution is due to present its case over two days. Karadzic is scheduled to outline his case next week.
Karadzic had asked for an additional 10 months.
Last week he sent a letter to the court saying he would not attend the trial until he was ready.
