Humane Society to evaluate 400 pit bulls
(2009-07-22)
(St. Louis Public Radio) - More than 400 dogs were rescued two weeks ago in Missouri and Illinois as part of the largest raid on dog fighting in U.S. history.

The Humane Society of Missouri helped spur the investigation and now it's caring for and evaluating the dogs, which are almost all pit bulls, at a temporary shelter.

Tim Rickey is the director of the organization's Animal Cruelty Task Force.

As he explained to KWMU's Maria Altman, the dogs' fighting history means they have to be given special care.
