Budget deadline passes in Illinois with no spending plan
SPRINGFIELD, ILL.
(St. Louis Public Radio) -
A deadline for a new state budget in Illinois has passed, but there's still no agreement and no indication when one might happen.
The state will keep operating for at least a while, even though it has no spending authority.
Lawmakers have approved a budget that includes heavy cuts to social services, but Governor Pat Quinn said yesterday he will not sign it.
