Sheley accused of jailhouse assault

GALESBURG, ILL.

Authorities say a man accused of eight murders in Illinois and Missouri allegedly attempted to assault another inmate at a northern Illinois jail.Knox County Sheriff David Clague said Nicholas Sheley is suspected of unscrewing a railing from his cell in the county jail, taking it to the next cell and swinging it at another inmate Sunday morning.
Prosecutors will decide if Sheley will face charges in the case.
He's already suspected of beating eight people to death in late June before he was captured outside a Metro East bar.
His alleged victims ranged in age from 2 to 93 years old.
