Gonzales to speak at Wash U
Gonzales has taken to the speaker circuit since resigning as attorney general amidst controversy over the firings of several U.S. attorneys.
He's been met with protests at several colleges.
Washington University student president Neil Patel says at least two groups are planning to protest at next month's event.
But he says the student government chose to bring Gonzales in to spur more political dialogue on campus.
"Our priority was to make sure all points of view have been heard," Patel said. "The College Republicans were in favor of bringing him to campus, and our role as Student Union is not to advocate for any one point; it's to make sure every point of view is heard."
Gonzales' speaking fee is $30,000 and the student government is spending another $5,000 for his traveling expenses.
Patel says at this point the event is expected to be open only to Wash U students.
