(St. Louis Public Radio) - A grand jury has handed up an indictment against the suspended superintendent of the Riverview Gardens School District in north St. Louis County.

Henry Williams, 65, stands accused of stealing and income tax evasion.

Prosecutors allege Williams stole more than $100,000 from district coffers. Williams is free on bond awaiting his formal arraignment.

Williams was hired at Riverview Gardens in 2002 and suspended earlier this year.

In 1998, he left his job as superintendent in Kansas City as issues concerning spending became known.

Williams has said he looks forward to defending his name. © Copyright 2012, St. Louis Public Radio
