(St. Louis Public Radio) - Albert Pujols is now a U.S. citizen.

The St. Louis Cardinals slugger took the oath of citizenship Wednesday in a ceremony at the Eagleton Courthouse in St. Louis.

The first baseman's wife, Dee Dee, secretly arranged to have nearly two-dozen friends and other supporters on hand for the swearing-in ceremony with Judge E. Richard Webber.

Chester Moyer, the officer in charge of the U-S Citizen and Immigration Service office in St. Louis, says Pujols scored 100 percent on his citizenship test.

Now a newly-minted American, Pujols has already flown to Florida for spring training as the Cardinals prepare to defend their world title.
