History Center to close 2 days each week
(2009-05-21)
(KOSU) - The Oklahoma History Center's executive director says proposed budget cuts will result in the center closing two days a week, starting in July.
Bob Blackburn says the Oklahoma Historical Society's plan calls for reducing the number of hours not just at the History Center, but at as many as 12 museums and sites across the state.
He says a final decision about the closures will be made in July.
The state Legislature is cutting 7 percent of operational funds from many state agencies, which Blackburn says amounts to a little more than $1.1 million for the Historical Society.
He says the History Center will not compromise its standards because of the budget cuts.
The center will remain open five days a week.
