HARTFORD, CT (wnpr) - This view is the one most of us grew up with. For instance, there's the idea that Columbus discovered America, something that's still a painful distortion to the continent's native population.

Twenty-five years ago, historian and activist Howard Zinn changed all that with a landmark best seller, A People's History of the United States which presents American history through the eyes of those he feels are outside of the political and economic establishment.

Now, that book has been adapted by Rebecca Stefoff for a younger audience, one whose historical education comes from those more traditional textbooks.

For the release of this new volume, A Young People's History of the United States, Zinn will be speaking Tuesday night, May 1st, at the Center Church on the Green in New Haven.
