General Event Information
Event Category:
Lectures/Literary

Dates and Times:
March 11, 5:00PM-6:30PM
Profesor Nicholas Rogers, from the University of York, will focus on London in 1712, which began with tales of upper-class gangs [Mohocks] marauding the streets and ended with an angry duel between two peers of the realm. The talk examines how the authorities responded to these events, how the press construed them, and what political ends were served at a time when party strife was rife and the royal succession uncertain. The talk will conclude with some reflections on weapons and citizenship in eighteenth-century London.
