Arturo Sandoval playing a beautiful instrument, beautifully.
"If you've got music in your heart," Arturo Sandoval tells interviewer Kevin Kniestedt, "you're gonna be a happy person, no matter what." The trumpeter recalls growing up in rural Cuba and having a teacher say that he had no talent and shouldn't pursue music. Obviously, Sandoval, now known as one of the world's foremost jazz trumpeters, didn't listen to that misguided advice ? but it's a pure delight to hear him tell the story. Equally delightful are the two musical selections performed here by Sandoval and his band (pianist Mahesh Balasooriya, saxophonist Zane Musa, bassist John Belzaguy and drummer Johnny Friday): "There Will Never Be Another You" and Clifford Brown's "Joy Spring."
