Art Department Annual Open House
Thursday, October 17; 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Fine Arts Building and Delta Field, Colorado Mesa University
FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC
On October 17 the Colorado Mesa University Art Department will host its annual Open House for High School art students and their teachers.
This year students from CMU’s Art Department and Grand Junction High School will cast tiles and sculptures in an Iron Pour, working with Sculpture Professor Araan Schmidt and visiting artist Rian Kerrane, a Professor of Sculpture at University of Colorado, Denver. 46 students from Grand Junction High School have been preparing for the Iron Pour by carving individual resin tiles. After being cast in iron, the individual tiles will come together to create a wall hanging of a tiger, GJHS’s mascot.
Students from CMU Sculpture, Bronze Casting, and Typography classes have also created tiles and three-dimensional sculptures for casting. The Iron Pour will be an interactive, communal art-making event, and will allow students to cast their art work in an alternative metal.
The Iron Pour will take place on Delta Field, on the east side of CMU’s Fine Arts building. Please call (970) 248-1833 for additional information.
