Eats & Beats: Soul Food Scholar on black eyed peas
(2013-12-11)
(kuvo) - Soul Food Scholar and Denver resident Adrian Miller brought the story of black eyed peas to First Take, part of our holiday season look at ethnic food favorites.

Miller, author of Soul Food - the Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, says the notion that eating black eyed peas on New Years Day leads to good luck for the rest of the year is "an interesting combination of West African, European and Native American traditions."

Miller's website is www.SoulFoodScholar.com.

Music on this feature by The JBs, the title track from the LP "Pass the Peas."

length of feature - about 4:30
