Esperanza Spalding on Motivation and Life Lessons for Musicians
(2012-09-24)
(kuvo) - The American Graduate Project is about helping young people finish school. We take an interesting twist on this theme with Grammy-winning bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding. She actually dropped out of school to earn her GED. But she went on to great success, and upon graduating from Berklee, was granted a teaching position. Today, she is passionate about music education.

In this audio clip from a recent phone call, Esperanza talks about the motivation required for musicians who are not sure they can make it as a professional musician, and she passes on some important life lessons that all students would be wise to heed.
