Making Denver Better, 1 Block At a Time
(kuvo) - "Making Denver better one block at a time." A lofty goal, but there's no reason it won't work here. That's the view of architect and urban planner Gosia Kung, who is part of the neighborhood team behind this Saturday's "Better Block Jefferson Park."

The community in the shadow of Sports Authority Field at Mile High (literally) is putting creating a "Living Street" on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The idea is not to block off the streets for a street fair, but it will have that festive kind of feel.

They want to demonstrate what a regular, sustainable, livable active street would look like. They will even occupy some of the empty storefronts with one-day "pop-up" vendors, and they will bring in some potted trees for a sidewalk caf atmosphere. There will be a small music stage, interactive art and fresh produce, too.

The idea came from Dallas, where the "Better Block" concept is about two years old and is already getting results.

Give a listen to this interview and visit the Jefferson Park neighborhood, Federal and 25th this Saturday for some ideas on what your community could be like.
