As an off-shoot of the Samba group "Ginga", they are committed to bringing diverse styles of music into a Jazz format. Victor Mestas, born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela, and a recent addition to the Colorado music scene, is well-versed in Afro-Cuban styles, Brazilian Samba, and American jazz, and is the preeminent salsa pianist in Colorado. Raoul Rossiter is the first call on the Front Range for Brazilian drum set and percussion, and is also an experienced Prog-Rock drummer via his playing with Hamster Theatre and Thinking Plague. Mark Simon's jazz credentials run very deep, from touring and recording with Carmen McRae, performing regularly with Rene Marie, playing with the legendary Brazilian Drummer Claudio Slon, to being the bassist in the all-star Denver ensemble Convergence. Bill Kopper's resume includes such diverse playing and recording situations as Brad Goode's Electric Polytonal Ensemble, arranging and recording Peruvian and Andean Folk music with vocalist Cristina Mendoza Vidal (featured in the enviro-doc "A Fierce Green Fire" with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep), to Dexter Payne's Choro/Forro group and the Boulder-based Samba-Pagode group Ginga. These wide-ranging musical influences combine to make the Hip Richies repertoire surprising, engaging and rhythmically dynamic.
